Athletes are often surprised when they are diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, or other illnesses. They are under the misconception that their activity level will burn off any harmful foods they eat. Not so. Eating sugary foods, refined foods, white bread, pasta, and saturated fats will take their toll sooner or later. Usually with a vengeance. Another dietary myth is eating a high protein diet. Protein is an important macronutrient, but we don’t have a storage mechanism for excess. Nor are we built with an efficient protein elimination system. This makes sense when you discover that almost all of our foods have protein components. It’s part of what gives food structure. We eat protein in abundance. Make an appointment with one of our practitioners and we’ll go over the protein intake formula specific to your body’s needs.
