Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide. A recent Mayo Clinic study shows that taking 1000-2000mg daily reduces your risk for a fatal heart attack by 35% and a non-fatal attack by 13%. This study was significant in that it involved over 135,000 people across 40 research studies. When considering an Omega 3 supplement you want a mix of EPA and DHA fatty acids. Eating fatty fish, like salmon or mackerel, is a good way to increase your body’s fatty acid levels. But unless you eat it regularly it’s probably not enough to be heart protective. Caution- make sure you are getting high-quality fish oil! We recommended Nordic Naturals, Carlsons, and Ayush as a start.
