Lipotropic injections are a collection of nutrients to help boost fat metabolism (your body’s ability to burn fat) and encourage liver detoxification. If your liver has been damaged by toxins, fat, or simply overstressed with excessive daily work, it is less able to healthfully process fats and other metabolites. Meaning your body may store more fat rather than get rid of it. MIC, along with a healthy diet and regular exercise, may result in a 4-10lb weight loss monthly. We have specific weight management products and physician consults to help support your return to optimal weight.
What is in the MIC injection that improves metabolism and fat loss?
Methionine: supports the body in breaking down fat deposits. It is a precursor of glutathione, which is essential in the detoxification of the liver. Essential for muscle growth and energy. It also helps preserve artery function, maintain healthy nails, hair, and skin, and helps remove heavy metals from the body.
Inositol: converts fats into useful forms of energy. Assists in establishing healthy cell membranes to facilitate the transfer of nutrients into cells. Used medicinally to help lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Is also used to improve circulation, prevent hair loss, and nourish the brain.
Choline: important for liver function, along with helping to remove toxins, and prevent fat from accumulating in the liver. Assists in controlling cholesterol levels in the blood and in controlling weight gain by maintaining healthy cell membranes. Linked to and directly associated with maintenance of the nervous system, assisting memory, and is critical for normal cell membrane structure and function.
L-Carnitine: required for the transport and breakdown of body fat into the mitochondria, where they can be burned for energy. Studies show that oral L-Carnitine supplementation can decrease fat mass, increase muscle mass, and reduce fatigue (University of Maryland Medical Centre, 2002). An analysis of nine studies- mostly in obese individuals or older adults- found that people lost an average of 2.9 pounds more weight while taking L-carnitine.
How often do I get an injection?
Injections are given once a week. Some people opt to get injections twice the first week to kick off the fat-burning benefits. Your injections are quick visits at the clinic. If you need more time for questions with your doctor let us know and we’ll be happy to schedule extra visit time. The Lipotropic injections are usually given until the individual reaches their weight loss goals or is close enough that they only have a small amount to lose after they finish the injection treatment.
How much does the treatment cost?
MIC injections are by prescription only. You’ll need an initial appointment with one of our doctors, and a 15-30-minute check-in visit every 4-6 weeks. These visits may be billed to insurance or as cash fees.

Q & A
Lipotropic injections melt the fat away:
FALSE. The injections certainly help, but they are not “magic” and do not instantly dissolve fat. Instead, the “I” and “C” portions of the MIC injection provide a powerful fat-filtering combination. Inositol, the “I”, helps to regulate your hormone and insulin levels. This means your mood will be more stable and your hunger levels should decrease. Choline, the “C”, helps by metabolizing the fats and sending them into your bloodstream to be used. That means that fat deposits in your body will decrease as your metabolism speeds up.
MIC injections will keep your metabolism up so much that you don’t have to exercise:
FALSE. Methionine, the “M”, helps with more effective mobilization and elimination of abnormal fat deposits. B vitamins are taken or given alongside a MIC injection often give the patient a feeling of increased energy, but that does not necessarily mean that their metabolism is running so high that exercise is not necessary.
Tried-and-true weight loss plans usually follow these measures:
- Plan on a steady weight loss goal of 1-2 pounds per week.
- Regular exercise of at least 30-60 minutes 5 days a week.
- Healthy diet changes- avoid or severely limiting sugars, processed foods, saturated fat foods.
- Drink more liquids to help flush toxins from the body.
- Get 7-8 hours of sleep per day.
Practice daily stress management strategies.
- Accountability via a personal check-in, a journal, or another tracking system.
- Regular check-ins with your doctor, personal trainer, or weight loss counselor.
Are there side effects with lipotropic injections?
Rare, but potential. Side effects may include stomach upset, or urinary problems due to detox strain on the kidneys. Detox depression, fatigue, or diarrhea. Finally, some patients reported an unpleasant odor. Very rarely patients may experience an allergic reaction to the injections. Call your healthcare provider immediately, or report to urgent care, if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction: wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; altered consciousness; or if you experience chest pain or pressure or fast heartbeat, severe dizziness or passing out, nervousness and excitability, or severe headache.
