Eating disorders are, unfortunately, a common issue with teens and their mental wellness. It is a physiological disorder that affects many teenagers, but mostly females. 90% of those with eating disorders are girls. This issue can affect the individual short and long term and sometimes leads to death.
A few common eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. All disorders are dangerous, and if you believe that you or a friend are suffering, you must talk to your parents or doctor about what you are feeling. It is never too late to ask for help.
Eating disorders will go unnoticed and untreated because usually, the individual will try to hide what they are feeling and doing. However, this can cause a lot of damage to their physical well-being. Eating disorders are nothing to be ashamed of. There is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ body, whether or not the beauty standards say so.
