Exfoliate and Treat Your Skin : Let Me Count the Ways

Do you want clean, healthy skin? YES! Which method is best to exfoliate and stimulate new skin? Let me count the ways.  Here are some of my favorite exfoliation tactics you can choose either at home, with your aesthetician, or -for advanced treatment- with your ND or MD Specialist.

So, what are collagen and elastin? They are fibers that make up and support the tissue of the skin. Collagen adds firmness, and elastin keeps the skin tight. When you invest in your face with any of these treatments, I feel it is important to add the tops of your hands to the treatment. There is an additional cost, but it is minimal and worth it when your hands look as youthful as your face.

Solution or Chemical Peels:

Usually performed with your aesthetician or clinician, the ingredients vary for everyone. How deep or long the downtime will be is also a variable.  You may also purchase light or gentle peels over the counter for use at home.

Dermaplaning:

Using a sharp scalpel or razor to shave the hairs and dead skin cells from your face. This technique can be used alone or with a Solution Peel. Make sure to moisturize afterward.

Microdermabrasion:

There are clinical-use machines or lesser versions for a home purchase. This hand-held device aims to improve acne and remove or minimize acne scarring and other skin impurities. The procedure typically is not painful and can take several visits to accomplish a noticeable improvement. However, after each treatment, it leaves your skin feeling clean and smooth after applying serums and lotions.

At-Home Scrubs:

Many options exist, from Loofas and washcloths to apricot or micro scrubs. Try a DIY method with ground oatmeal mixed with bananas or honey. How about a sugar scrub with a small amount of milk or coconut milk?  Use a gentle circular motion and rinse with warm, then cool water. Pat dry and apply hydrating lotion and/or serum.

Lasers and Intense Pulsed Light- IPL:

This depends on which you choose. You can boost your skin’s ability to promote more collagen and elastin and exfoliate all in one treatment.

Red Light Blue Light:

Red and blue light are two wavelengths that positively affect the skin. Red light stimulates collagen and elastin, and Blue Light penetrates deeper into the dermis to eliminate bacteria and exfoliate. In addition, Red Light therapy can reduce skin discoloration, inflammation, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and sun and age spots. Blue light therapy can improve many skin conditions, such as mild to moderate acne, Rosacea, and sun damage. Both lights help improve your acne, inflammation, scarring, Dermatitis, Eczema, Psoriasis, Rosacea, signs of aging, wound healing, or other conditions caused by inflammation. Light up your life with light therapy for your skin care.

There you have it. Lots of ways to improve your skin and reverse the clock. You don’t need a magic wand to make improvements, and you don’t need a big budget. What’s more, having a facial or face treatment done by a professional esthetician is fun! Give our office a call! There is a solution for everyone.
